Food for Yoga Practice

Here is a general guidelines for food

Good Food for Yoga Practice

  1. Fruits of all type, all colors taken fresh and whole
  2. All Vegetables, except too much onion and garlic
  3. Whole grains of all types
  4. Beans in moderation except those who are not heavy such as mung, aduki or tofu
  5.  Nuts and seeds like almond, coconut, walnut, pecans and sesame, yet not overly roasted or salted
  6.  All kind of plant based oils like sesame, olive, sunflower, butter and ghee (clarified butter)
  7. Dairy products from cows who are treated well
  8.  Natural sugars like Jaggery, honey, maple syrup etc.
  9.  Sweet spices like ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, fennel, cumin, coriander, turmeric, mint, basil, fenugreek
  10. Herbal teas, natural water, fruit juices specially water with lemon or lime

 

Food to Reduce or Avoid

  1.  Genetically engineered food items
  2.  Any kind of meat, fish including eggs
  3. Artificial, processed, junk food, canned food, artificial sweetener and condiments
  4. All kind of fried food, over cooked food, old, stale or recooked food
  5. Poor quality of oils, animal fats and margarine
  6. Dairy products from factory farms
  7. Garlic, Onions and overly spicy food
  8.  White sugar and white flour
  9. Alcohol, tobacco or other stimulants
  10. Tap water or artificial beverages
